Seismic Protection Technologies for Structures

The presentation is about earthquake damage to buildings and bridges, and how this damage could be prevented in the future. Technologies like seismic isolation and dampers have been used to protect structures against earthquakes. Case studies of protected structures will be presented, and how they survived large earthquakes and kept totally functional after the seismic event.

About Jean C. Guzmán Pujols

Jean is a seismic engineer and international business development specialist in the sales department at Dynamic Isolation Systems. He holds a master’s degree (2013) and Ph.D. (2016), from the University of Nevada, Reno, both in structural and earthquake engineering. His areas of expertise include structural dynamics, seismic analysis and design, seismic response of non-structural systems and contents, and risk-based seismic performance evaluations. In the academic field, he has made several publications with the aim of improving the resilience of buildings to seismic events, both conventional and with isolation systems.
